Bike & Availability Management

Simple Bike Rental allows you to organize the bicycles available for rental and automatically manage their availability based on existing reservations.

A single bicycle configured in the plugin can represent a bike model or type available in one or more units. This means you don't need to create a separate entry for every physical bicycle when multiple units have the same characteristics and rental conditions.

Note: Booking multiple bicycles

Multiple bicycles can be booked at the same time within a single reservation, as long as they are of the same model. If a customer wants to rent different models, a separate reservation must be made for each model.

For example, a customer can book 3 City Bikes in a single reservation. If they want to book 2 City Bikes and 1 Mountain Bike, they will need to make two separate reservations.

Managing Multiple Units of the Same Bicycle

For each bicycle, you can set the available quantity.

For example, if you have 5 identical City Bikes, you can create a single bicycle and set its quantity to 5, instead of creating five separate entries.

Simple Bike Rental uses this quantity to automatically determine how many units are still available during a specific rental period.

When reservations are made, units that are already booked are taken into account when calculating availability, preventing bookings from exceeding the available quantity.

Managing Different Models or Configurations

When bicycles have different characteristics or rental conditions, it is better to configure them as separate bicycles.

This allows you to manage prices, availability, and other settings associated with each type of bicycle individually.

Managing Bicycle Sizes

Simple Bike Rental does not currently have a dedicated system for variants or bicycle sizes.

If the same bicycle model is available in different sizes, you can create a separate bicycle for each size. The easiest way is to duplicate an existing bicycle and modify its name and any necessary information.

For example:

  • Mountain Bike – S
  • Mountain Bike – M
  • Mountain Bike – L

Each size can have its own quantity. If you have three Mountain Bikes in size M and two in size L, you can configure:

  • Mountain Bike – M: quantity 3
  • Mountain Bike – L: quantity 2

Simple Bike Rental will then manage the availability of each size separately.

Note: Since each size is configured as a separate bicycle, different sizes cannot be added to the same reservation. For example, renting 2 Mountain Bikes in size M and 1 Mountain Bike in size L will require two separate reservations.

Availability and Reservations

Bicycle availability is calculated based on the configured quantity and existing reservations.

When a customer selects a rental period, Simple Bike Rental checks existing reservations and determines which bicycles are still available for that period.

This allows you to manage multiple units of the same model without having to manually check availability after each reservation.

Temporarily Making a Bicycle Unavailable

If a bicycle should not be available for rental during a specific period, you can use blackouts.

Blackouts can be applied globally or to specific bicycles, for example when a bike is temporarily out of service or should not be bookable on certain dates.
