Blackouts (temporary closures)

The Blackouts section allows you to block bicycle availability for specific periods. This is useful for vacations, maintenance, special events, or any situation where one or more bicycles should not be available for booking.

Creating a blackout

To create a new blackout, open the Blackouts page from the plugin menu.

Apply the blackout to all bicycles

By enabling the Apply to all bicycles option, the blackout will be applied system-wide, making all bicycles unavailable during the selected period.

When this option is enabled, the Bicycle field is hidden because selecting a specific bicycle is no longer necessary.

Use this mode for:

  • seasonal closures
  • vacations
  • general maintenance
  • events affecting the entire rental business

Apply the blackout to a single bicycle

If the Apply to all bicycles option is not selected, you can choose a specific bicycle from the Bicycle dropdown menu.

In this case, the blackout will affect only the selected bicycle, while all other bicycles will remain available for booking.

This mode is particularly useful for:

  • maintenance of a single bicycle
  • repairs
  • temporarily unavailable bicycles
  • technical inspections or service work

Full-day blackout

The Full-day blackout option (entire days) determines the type of time range used for the blackout.

When enabled, the blackout applies to entire days. The Start and End fields allow you to select dates only.

For example:

  • Start: 15/05/2026
  • End: 20/05/2026

In this case, the bicycle (or all bicycles, if it is a global blackout) will be unavailable from May 15 through May 20, inclusive.

When the option is disabled, the Start and End fields switch to date-and-time mode, allowing you to define more precise time intervals.

For example:

  • Start: 15/05/2026 09:00
  • End: 15/05/2026 13:00

In this case, the blackout will be applied only during the selected time range.

This mode is particularly useful for:

  • short maintenance periods
  • scheduled pickups or deliveries
  • temporary events
  • unavailability limited to a few hours

Note

The Note field is optional and can be used to add an internal description explaining the reason for the blackout, for example:

  • Maintenance
  • Vacation
  • Event
  • Closed
  • Bike repair

Notes are displayed in the existing blackouts table and help identify the reason for the closure at a glance.

Save the blackout

After configuring all settings, click Save blackout to create the closure period.

Existing blackouts

At the bottom of the page, you will find a list of all existing blackouts. For each blackout, the following information is displayed:

  • ID
  • type (Global or Bicycle)
  • affected bicycle
  • start date
  • end date
  • whether it is a full-day blackout
  • associated note

Delete a blackout

To remove an existing blackout, click the Delete button in the Actions column. Once deleted, the affected period will immediately become available for bookings again.

Note: Global blackouts affect all bicycles and take precedence over individual availability. Bicycle-specific blackouts affect only the selected bicycle.
